About Me
My name is Patrick Magee, I live in Ireland and I play poker semi-professionally (I also run an electronic design and repair business).
I have been playing poker for four years and my main game is NLHE $1/$2 both full ring and short handed. I started with a couple of $50 deposits back in 2006 and on the third attempt I built a bankroll and have been studying the game ever since. I really enjoy the theoretical side of poker and I spend a lot of time looking at the mathematical aspects of holdem. I got into coaching around late 2007 and I love talking about the game with anyone who will listen.
I’m known as “Sounded Simple” on Deuces Cracked and 2+2, I play on Full Tilt Poker as asdf1234567, on Pokerstars as “SSimple” and at the Ongame Network as “lolyourchips”. Here’s a graph of my last 282K hands.
I’m a listed coach over at Deuces Cracked and it’s an honour to be working alongside some of the best in the business. I currently have nine videos which you can check out.
My Approach to Coaching
I’ve been coaching poker and getting coached myself for over three years now. If there’s one thing I have learned it’s that coaching can certainly show an excellent return on investment it’s by no means a magic bullet – anyone making claims to the contrary is a liar. Getting better at poker is hard work, there’s no secret formula that I know and you don’t, there’s no generic one page strategy and no shortcuts on this journey. It’s just like getting fit or learning an instrument, hard work is the only way to the top. Of course learning poker is also similar in that by having the correct resources and someone pointing you in the right direction you can maximise your return on your effort.
My approach to the game is mostly mathematical and I provide written material to cover the main concepts that players at these levels most often need help with. I’m not promising I will make you a winner but I will give you the required information that you can make yourself one.
Coaching Requirements
There’s no minimum skill level or win rate that is required for coaching. However if you have not studied my videos over at Deuces Cracked then I’d recommend you check that out first. Training videos offer exceptional value for money and Deuces Cracked has a free trial option during which you can download and keep whatever you want, can’t say fairer than that.
As far as technical requirements go, all you need is a good headset (USB types are best) and for the software you need is Teamviewer and Skype (both free).
Coaching Rates
My rate is $70 per session and sessions usually last 1 hour. All students get written articles and workbooks free of charge. For regular students I’m available for quick questions and hand histories between sessions again free of charge.
Reduced rates for bulk purchases are available.
